National, Regional and Industry Competitiveness

Some of our recent experience includes:

J.E. Austin Associates has been the leading implementer of national, regional and industry competitiveness initiatives in emerging economies. JAA introduced competitiveness as a thematic area to USAID and designed the first competitiveness initiative. JAA also helped author the World Bank manual for competitiveness initiatives. JAA helped create an expanded design to national competitiveness initiatives that included not only industry cluster initiatives but also economic policy reform, private-public dialogue, local development and workforce competitiveness components.

JAA has implemented long-term competitiveness initiatives in Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Uganda, Croatia, Bulgaria, Armenia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Senegal, Tanzania, Cambodia, Kazakhstan and Thailand. JAA has also advised the Dubai Competitiveness Council and worked on industry cluster development in Al-Madinah, Saudi Arabia. JAA has advised national competitiveness councils in Croatia and Egypt and has provided technical assistance in the publishing of national competitiveness reports for Egypt, Armenia and Pakistan. JAA was instrumental in the design of the Pakistan Competitiveness Support Fund, which has gone on to successfully implement many competitiveness-related projects.

JAA principals are noted guest speakers on competitiveness and JAA’s CEO has spoken at competitiveness conferences in Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia. JAA worked directly with the heads of state in many of these countries including President Nazerbaev of Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister of Mongolia and the former heads of state of Ireland and Costa Rica. JAA has developed tools such as the National Competitiveness Framework, designed to enable emerging economies to achieve rates of growth of 6-8% on a sustainable basis.
