USAID Bicycles for Growth
The USAID Bicycles for Growth (BFG) project is a $3.5 million three-year intervention which seeks to improve sustainable access to affordable, fit-for-purpose bicycles in sub-Saharan Africa. Focusing on rural and peri-urban areas, the project aims to improve the market system for bicycles and related products and services. BFG will thus help enhance mobility, thereby increasing opportunities for income, access to health, education, and other social services. The project conducted comprehensive market system assessments in Ghana, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia. BFG is now implementing pilot projects in Ghana and Malawi that are implemented by J.E. Austin Associates and World Bicycle Relief respectively, aiming to address unique local barriers to bicycle supply and uptake.
