J.E. Austin bolsters bicycle market systems in Sub-Saharan Africa
J.E. Austin trained bicycle mechanics in the Northern region of Ghana, as a part of USAID Bicycles for Growth (BFG) project. This training sharpened the mechanics entrepreneurial and technical skills, building their capacity to grow their business and introducing them to different bicycle maintenance techniques. By supporting these bicycle mechanics to grow their businesses, the BFG project increases the availability of bicycle repairs and maintenance services in communities that have limited access. This gives community members the confidence to own bicycles, enhancing their ability to engage in social and economic activities that were previously too far away. Sustainable and affordable access to bicycles in Sub-Saharan Africa is a key component of the USAID Bicycles for Growth project.
