Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project
In partnership with prime contractor Abt Associates, J.E. Austin is implementing critical Access to Markets and Access to Finance activities under USAID’s five-year Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening project (ERAS). ERAS is a Feed the Future project working in greater Cairo, Upper Egypt, and the Nile Delta, through three strategic regional offices in Luxor, Minya and Gharbia, in addition to the main office in Cairo. The project’s implementation period is from August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2023.The project aims improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. ERAS activities promote a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. J.E. Austin has contributed significantly to increasing the competitiveness of smallholder farmers and supporting microfinance institutions throughout this activity. J.E. Austin has provided key expertise in the areas of contract farming, crop insurance, access to finance and market linkages. JAA continues to facilitate and strengthen linkages between agricultural producers and buyers in Upper Egypt and the Delta regions via MOU agreements, and provides expert technical assistance and training-of-the-trainers to key stakeholders, including microfinance institutions and farmers.
